HERMIT FOUND MURDERED

Veteran of Mexican War
is Thought to Have Been
Slain for Money

Marshalltown, Iowa, Jan. 5. – Thomas Reed, age 80, a veteran of the Mexican War, who lived alone near Brooklyn, near Poweshiek County, was found murdered today. Indications point to robbery and a desperate struggle, the murdered man holding a hammer in his hand. Footprints of a man were found in the snow. Bloodhounds have been ordered from Knoxville.
