In 1861 he commenced reading law in the office of Howe & North at Kewanee, at Ottawa, in December 1863. He opened an office at Kewanee and practiced ten months, after which he came to Iowa, locating in Knoxville, where he has since been numbered among the leading counselors of central Iowa.
