Roy F. Dwyer, son of Harley Lee Dwyer and Atholl Auretta (Jessup), was born on January 5, 1940, in rural Richland, Iowa. Roy graduated from Zion High School in 1958, and later graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 1964.

Roy was united in marriage to Wanona Ann Petherick on August 23, 1959, at the Hill of Zion Church in Zion, Iowa. They settled in the Kansas City, MO area where he worked as an Analytical Chemist for the Food and Drug Administration until 1974. They later built a home in Lathrop, MO., before moving back to the Zion area in 1974 where he farmed until his retirement in 2006.

Prior to moving back to Iowa, Roy was an outstanding athlete and was the league MVP and in the Hall of Fame of the overhand fast pitch softball league in the Kansas City area. Roy loved his family and spent many summers with them on the beach at the Outer Banks, NC. In August 2024 the family gathered again on the farm to celebrate Roy and Wanona’s 65th wedding anniversary. Roy was an avid bowler, always searching for that perfect 300, and traveling with his longtime bowling team to tournaments across the Midwest. He was a sharp snooker player, taking on all comers. He rarely missed watching or listening to Kansas City Chiefs or Royals games.

Roy is survived by his wife, Wanona; a daughter, Paula Jennings of Stanberry, MO; three sons, Roy Vincent Dwyer of Bedford, NH, Thomas Dwyer (Susan) of Plainfield, IL, and Frank Dwyer (Jill) of Medina, OH; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and sister Rosann Christensen of Waukee, IA.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Paul and Roland and sister Phyllis McFee.
