Barbara Thrailkill Halpin, 86, Bettendorf, died Sunday, December 29, 2024, with family present.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1809 Mississippi Blvd. in Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.

Barbara Ann Thrailkill Halpin was born October 19, 1938, in Dexter, Madison County, Iowa, to Arlene Emaline Willison and Chester H Thrailkill.

She was raised on a farm south of Dexter, Iowa and was educated for the first two years at a country school in Madison County. She continued her education at Dexter where she graduated from high school. Barbara received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa and her Master of Science Degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.

She taught physical education for three years in Nevada, Iowa and five years at Sudlow Junior High in Davenport, Iowa. In 1966 Barbara married Robert Joseph Halpin in Bettendorf, Iowa. They had two daughters, Barbara and Susan. She was a devoted mother who loved to support her daughters in their sports endeavors.

In 1996 Barbara joined the Hannah Caldwell Chapter NSDAR in Davenport, Iowa. She served in many positions for the chapter including Regent, Registrar and chairman of numerous committees. On the state level she also served as Regent, Vice Regent, Organizing Secretary, Registrar, District Director and chairman of several state committees. Barbara also served as Vice President General, and the National Board of Management, National Vice Chairman, North Central Division Vice Chairman, DAR School Board of Trustees on the national level. During her time in the DAR she helped over 200 people to become members.

She was a Member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, National Officers Club, State Regents Club, State Vice Regents Club, and National Vice Chairmen’s Association, Asbury Methodist Church, and Delta Delta Delta Alumni.

She is survived by two daughters Barbara Ann Boodrasang (Wong) and Susan Arlene Dowell (Wayne), grandson, Elijah Boodrasang and two sisters Treva Davis and Shirley Crosman. She was preceded in death by her husband (Robert) in 1995, parents, Arlene and Chester Thrailkill and a brother, Chester Thrailkill.

In lieu of flowers the family would like you to consider a donation to the Melanoma Research Fund at the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa.
