Anna Marie Medema was born February 25, 1942 in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Antone “Tony” and Pearl (Boeve) Medema. Her father nicknamed her “Tubby” because she was a preemie. She was raised in Rock Rapids and attended Central Lyon Community Schools. She graduated in 1960.
After her education, Anna Marie did a variety jobs for the community, such as babysitting, ironing and folding church bulletins for church. She lived with grandfather and cared for him following her grandmother’s death. She later did the same for her parents, Tony and Pearl Medema.
In 2003 Anna Marie became a resident at Good Samaritan in George, IA. She remained there until February of 2013, when she moved back to Rocky to be closer to her sister Jane, and entered the Rock Rapids Health Centre. Anna Marie was a member of First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids. She was active with Bible Circle, the Bell Choir at Good Samaritan and Rock Rapids Health Centre. She loved to help where ever needed. As a young girl, she and her sister Jane went to the Rapids Theatre where they saw “Jail House Rock”. From that point on, she became an “Elvis Fan” and collected many Elvis memorabilia. She enjoyed trips, fishing, birthday parties, reading books and sitting on the porch watching nature, especially butterflies. Most of all, Anna Marie’s niece and nephews were very important to her.
She will be remembered as a loving person who, even though disabilities prevented her from doing certain things, she made the most of life and did so with a servant’s heart!
