DEATH: William H. Kenton

The subject of this brief sketch, William Henry, son of Samuel and Mary Kenton was born in Rushville, Indiana, August 27, 1852 and departed this life at his home in Russell Iowa after a prolonged ilness, July 3, 1926, age 73 years and 10 months and 6 days. His parents moved from Indiana to Iowa and settled on a farm near Lovilla in Monroe County, where they continued to reside for a period of years. Removing from Monroe County they settled on a farm near Confidence in Wayne County for a period of 6 months when they moved to Brown County Kansas. The subject of this sketch returned from Brown County Kansas to Confidence where he was united in marriage to Miss Mary C. Allen Oct. 24, 1875. This union was blessed with four children all of whom are living and were permitted to be with the father at the time of his death and are as follows: Mrs. Nevada Foster, Mrs. Ada Ashba, John W. Kenton, and Martin J. Kenton.
Soon after marriage he and wife removed to Brown Co. Kansas where they remained for a period of eight years when he and family came to Russell. Soon after coming to Russell he entered the employ of the Stuart Eikenberry Co. and continued to remain with the Eikenberry Co. for a period of 36 years, or until October 1925, when he suffered a stroke of paralysis. On June 28, 1926 he suffered another stroke since which time he has continued in declining health till called by death to the spirit world.
The writer of these lines met with Brother Kenton first in the spring of 1884, when he arrived in Russell to become a pastor of the Russell church of Christ. Our brother was among the first to greet me, and during my pastorate of six years was a faithful attendant at all services of the church. He was upright and honorable in all of his relations with his fellowmen. Faithful in the discharge of every duty reposed in him honored and respected by all who knew him, a loving husband, an affectionate father, a good citizen and neighbor and a true friend. He leaves to mourn his departure; the devoted wife, 4 children and 11 grandchildren other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon July 6, 1926 at 2 pm at the Church of Christ, conducted by Rev. P.H. Green a former pastor. A large concourse of friends and neighbors were present in sympathey with the beloved and to pay their tribute and respect to the memory of him they knew and loved.
