The Chariton Patriot
Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, January 6, 1875The Concert given last Wednesday evening by MRS. T. SCOTT ROGERS, was a
musical feast, and gave unusually good satisfaction for the home
entertainment. MRS. ROGERS is a splendid musician, and gave the best
evidence of the fact, not only in her own singing and playing, but in the
pieces performed by some of her scholars at the concert. The entertainment
owed much of its success to MISS LAURA MOONEY, who, by request, sang several
pieces not on the programme. She rendered her songs with an almost
inimitable sweetness of voice, and was vociforously applauded, not only on
her appearance, but on her exit from the stage. We have only room to
mention further among the many good things of the evening, the bass solo by
MR. HARRY PALMER. It was a good song and remarkable well rendered by MR.
PALMER, who showed himself possessed of a compass of voice rarely possessed
by even professed musicians. We felt somewhat disappointed in not hearing
from MRS. O'NEAL on the occasion, as she ranks among Chariton's best singers
And now we ask why do we not have another evening of song in which all the
best singers of the town will participate? What say you MISS MOONEY, MRS.
ROGERS, MRS. O'NEAL, MRS. VANGILDER, MR. RHEEM, PALMER, et. al.?
