Page 1Morning Sun Herald: The community was shocked on Thursday last to learn of the sudden death of Mrs. Elizabeth Mellinger of this city. The deceased had not been strong for years, and for some time has been troubled with a persistent bronchitis, but none dreamed that the end was near. After a restless night, however, her friends saw that the vital energies were running low and shortly after noon she sank into the dreamless sleep. Elizabeth Lois Bevens was born in Hillsborough, Highland county, Ohio, Aug. 13, 1833. Oct. 25, 1851, she became the wife of John Mellinger, with whom in 1855, she removed to Iowa and together they settled on a farm southwest of Morning Sun. Here they lived until 1896 when they removed to Morning Sun where Mr. Mellinger died just three years ago.
Since her husband' death, Mrs. Mellinger, has had every comfort in the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. H. Cavin, of this city. But tender ministries could no longer delay the fateful hour, and surrounded by her dear ones and conscious until the last, she entered into rest. Mrs. Mellinger was a woman of many qualities, devoutly religious, of delicate sensibilities, unselfish nature, a born lady. Besides a large circle of friends she will be especially mourned by her two daughters, Mrs. R. H. Cavin and Mrs. W. H. Hungate, of Chicago. The grandchildren are four in number. The funeral services were held from the Cavin home Saturday afternoon conducted by Rev. Fred Elliott. The interment was made in the Elmwood cemetery.
