Mr. Joseph Staats, an old and highly respected resident of Wapello, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 1907. He had been seriously ill for more than two weeks, and all that loving hearts and hands could do was done for him, but it seems the All wise Father was ready for him and he had to go. He leaves a wife and three children to mourn his death- Chas. Staats, of Cedar Valley, Iowa; Mrs. Frank Thomas, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Mrs. Chas. Cox, of Wapello; all of whom were present during his sickness and death.

The deceased was born in Indiana, but came to this state at an early date, locating in Linn county, where he resided for a number of years, and then moved to Wapello which has been his continuous residence since. He was aged about 85 years at the time of his death. He was a quiet, unassuming man, who stood high in the estimation of his neighbors and friends. He was also a good, moral man and a most worthy citizen. The funeral services were held from the home this afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Newsom, assisted by Rev. Koopman, with interment in the Wapello cemetery.
