John Minehart – Minehart family history by grandson Jay Hart Rosdall submitted by Sheila Federspiel:

John Minehart was the next in Grandfather Philip’s family. He was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, the 11th of September, 1833. On May 27, 1850, at the age of sixteen years he came with Grandfather Philip to Linn County. On his arrival he worked out a year for one John Smith and after that, continued to work for various parties by the month, until 1853. On December 6th of that year, he married Rachel Slife, a sister-in-law of Catherine Slife, daughter of Philip Coffits and Katherine Bruner, (Of the Bruner Family History) Rachel was one of ten children born to Daniel and Eve (Millon) Slife, natives of Maryland and Pennsylvania respectively. After marriage, her parents had settled in Fairfield County, Ohio, whence they came to this state in 1846 and settle in Johnson County.

After there marriage. John Minehart and his wife settled on Section 5 Buffalo Township, on an eighty acre tract of land. After about eighteen years the former purchased 160 acres on Section 31 and settled on the latter section. He erected a good residence, made other improvements and added to original purchase until his land interest amounted to 245 acres. In 1882, he erected a creamery on his place, which he conducted until 1886, During the spring of that year he sold his stock, rented his farm and retired. He passed away February 24, 1905, age seventy one years, five months and twenty two days. His wife joined him in the spirit world June 28, 1914. Both were buried in Boulder Cemetery, Boulder Township. (here there should be noted, Boulder Cemetery, Buffalo Twp. Linn County, Iowa).
