Anna Maria De Brie, 89, of Iowa City, passed away at her home on Saturday, March 29, 2025. Private family interment will take place at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Hills, at a later date.

Anna, better known as “Ann,” was born on August 29, 1935, in Mondsee, Austria, the daughter of Hubert Kampfl and Hermine Gogl. She immigrated to the US in 1955 with her daughter Leslie, eventually being transferred to Iowa City with the company Pepperidge Farms as a line supervisor. It was there that she met John.

Ann and John De Brie were united in marriage on February 16, 1963, in Iowa City, and to this union, two daughters were born. The family would settle in Hills, eventually moving to Iowa City in 1986.

Ann enjoyed spending time bowling and going on long walks in the neighborhood. She was a devoted wife and stay-at-home mother. She also belonged to a group of German ladies who met once a month at each other’s homes for coffee.

Ann is survived by her husband, John De Brie; daughters Cheri (Scott) Arneson and Michele De Brie (John Meyer); grandchildren, Mellisa O’ Leary, Lonie (Will) Eggert, Adam (Jackie) Crossett, Michael Eckhardt, Nicole “Cole” Eckhardt, Kelsey (Derek) Montross, and Cody (Kristina) Arneson; and 11 great grandchildren.

Ann is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Hubert, Hedwig, Stefanie, Frederick, Rudi, and Walter; and daughter, Leslie O’ Leary.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Iowa City Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice.
