Martin (Marty) Leland Novotny, 71, of Iowa City, passed away surrounded by loved ones Sunday, February 9, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics. A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, February, 23, 2025 from 11:00am-1:00pm at The Kirkwood Room (515 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City). A private burial will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery (Iowa City).

Marty was born on August 26, 1953, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Leland and Donna (Lucky) Novotny. Growing up, Marty attended school in Iowa City.

Marty was united in marriage to Jonie Brezina in 1982 and from this union he was blessed with two children, Benjamin and Brooklyn. Since 2012, Marty has been with his partner, Lisa Hays. Marty grew up working at the family-owned bicycle shop, Novotny Cycle Center in Iowa City, Kel-Welco in Iowa City, RectorSeal Corporation and later retiring from CSI Marketing, Inc. Marty was Mr. Fix-It to his family. No matter where he worked, he always had a hand in a construction project, yard work, crafts, or tinkering around the house.

Marty is survived by his loving partner, Lisa Hays; his daughter, Brooklyn (Wade) Kretsinger of Rockton, Illinois; his four adored grandchildren: Peyton, Reid, Brady and Gianna Kretsinger of Rockton, Illinois; his dear uncle, Gene Novotny of Long Beach, California; and Lisa’s daughter, Kristina Dyott (Brandon) of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

Martin was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Lita Glaspey; and beloved son, Benjamin Novotny.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Martin Novotny Memorial Fund.
