Verna Vining passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025, at the Birdhouse in Iowa City IA.

Lensing Funeral home is in charge of cremation arrangements with a celebration of life to be held at a later date.

Verna was born July 17, 1927, in Clinton, IA, to John and Margaret (Sikkema) Dyke. She attended Fulton Grade Schools and was a graduate of Fulton High School. Verna married John H. Vining on January 11, 1947, in Clinton IA, where they raised their three children in the house they built. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who always put her family first.

She is survived by, two sons, John (Sheila) Vining of LeClaire, and Mark (Lynn) Vining of Iowa City, grandchildren, Chelly (Adam) Fink of Indiana, Jessica Jones of Oregon, Jason Jones of Indiana, Neil (Cassandra Goodman) Vining of LeClaire, Nathan Vining of LeClaire, Leah Link (William) of Indiana, Brett Vining of New York, and Sarah Luense (Carter) of Colorado, great grandchildren, Amber Fink of Kentucky, Joshua Fink of Indiana, and Hagen and Hudson Vining and great-great grandchildren Tyson and Augustus Fink of Kentucky; one son-in-law Robert Thies, three sisters Jean Smith of Arizona; Gail (John) Thomson and Carol (Robert) Jenkin both of Texas; one brother, Donald Dyke of Wisconsin; and one brother-in-law, Richard Hardy of Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, daughter, Deborah Thies, and four siblings, Ilene Hardy, Alice Dever, Marge Neilsen, John (Jack) Dyke.

Memorials may be made in her honor to Iowa City Hospice or Melrose Meadows.
