Shirley Schreiber, 75, of Riverside, passed away on January 12, 2025, surrounded by close family, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. A luncheon and gathering for family and friends will follow the service from 12:00 - 2:00 PM at Lensing’s Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Iowa Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association.

Shirley was born on April 9, 1949 in Iowa City to Robert and Mildred (Metz) Thomann. She graduated from Highland High School in Riverside before attending a year of college at Upper Iowa University and then obtained her Associate’s Degree in Accounting at AIB College of Business in Davenport. Shirley was married to Michael Schreiber in 1970 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside. They were married for 13 years and had one daughter, Tera. She worked at Proctor and Gamble before beginning her career at Moore Business Forms, now called R.R. Donnelley & Sons, where she worked for 35 years before retiring. After retirement, she continued working as a contracted accountant for friends and family. She moved back to Riverside in 2013, where she resided with her Life Partner, Gregg, until suffering a stroke in August of 2020.

Shirley enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening, and anything outdoors. She was passionate about birds, flowers, and trees and you could always find her sitting in the sun, enjoying the scenery. She was active in Parkinson’s Boxing classes for many years, where she went by the nickname “Bluebird”. Shirley was an independent, smart, strong, loyal, creative, and kind woman. She always saw the beauty in things: Even trees in the winter reminded her of “lace against the sky”. She will be deeply missed and always remembered by those who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her daughter Tera Schreiber (Michael Cali), siblings Richard (Delores) Thomann, Mary K. Mitchell, Michael (Carol) Thomann, and Theresa Mapel, her life partner of 38 years Gregg Redlin, his daughter Michelle (Dave) Pappone, and grandson Micah. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Stephen Thomann.
