Patrick Michael Finn, 90, of Iowa City, passed away on January 10, 2025, at the University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at the Solon Nursing Care Center, Iowa City Hospice, and University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown. Sister Rosemary Kucera, Sisters of Mercy, is a dear friend and was a blessing to both Pat and Carol.
A celebration of life will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at The Kirkwood Room in Iowa City. Private inurnment will take place at a later date at Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Table to Table in Iowa City.
Patrick was born on June 15, 1934, in Chicago, IL. Following graduation from high school in Chicago, Pat entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War era, stationed in Alaska. Following his service, Patrick would embark on a career that would span thirty-five years with Marshall Fields, Chicago’s pre-eminent department store. Beginning as a driver, he would work his way up to head the Shipping Department.
Patrick married Carol Mandernach on February 6, 1982. They moved from Hoffman Estates, a suburb of Chicago, and came to settle in Iowa City. In his retirement, Pat volunteered with Table to Table and Meals on Wheels. He also enjoyed his years as a bus driver for the Iowa City School District.
Patrick's interests were as varied as the life he led. A passionate gardener, he found solace in the tranquility of his garden. His love for traveling led him to Kiawah Island in South Carolina, which he visited on many occasions. Patrick was also an avid reader. A lifelong Cubs fan, Patrick's loyalty to his team was unwavering, and he reveled in their victories, especially the 2016 World Series.
Patrick was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol, his mother, Elizabeth Jean Cronk, and his brothers, Rod Finn and Jack Campbell. He is survived by his sister, Linda Jean Roeske (Keith), and his best friend from childhood, John Boveri.
