Funeral services for Irene F. Knoedel, 74, Iowa City, were held Sept. 12, 1988 at St. Mary's Catholic church in Iowa City, with the Rev. Tom Buecheley officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery.

Mrs. Knoedel died Sept. 9 at Mercy hospital following a short illness.

The daughter of Francis and Elizabeth Schumacher Kuncl, she was born Aug. 23, 1914 in rural Cedar Bluff. She married Ed Knoedel Jan. 3, 1935.

Mrs. Knoedel was a graduate of St. Mary's high school and attended the Mercy School of Nursing. She worked at Mercy hospital and later taught for the Nelson schools.

She was a member of St. Mary's Altar and Rosary society, the Catholic Daughters of America, the Catholic Order of Foresters and she was a volunteer for the Mercy Hospital Guild, the American Association of Retired Persons and at the Senior Center.

Mrs. Knoedel is survived by her husband; 2 sons, Richard, Iowa City and David E., Solon; 2 daughters, Joan Stone, Yuba City, Calif. and Linda Churches, Golden, Colo.; a brother, Robert Kuncl, Iowa City; a sister Marie Matthes, Iowa City; a half-sister, Jeanette Lalor, Iowa City; a half-brother, Jerry Kuncl, Omaha, Neb. and a stepmother, Adelaide Kuncl, Iowa City. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
