Judith A. “Judy” Miller, age 79 longtime Iowa City educator died Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Oaknoll Retirement Residence after a long illness.
Judy was born September 5, 1945, the daughter of Marvin and Doris (Steele) Roush. Following graduation from high school in Van Buren county, she received her degree in education from Iowa Wesleyan University and taught at Grant Wood Elementary in Iowa City for 42 years. She thoroughly enjoyed teaching many second graders during this time and made a lot of good teacher friends over the years. Judy loved being a grandmother and attended many music concerts and sporting events to support her grandchildren. She was an avid reader and was known to enjoy playing video poker and the piano.
Her family includes her daughter, Pamela Miller-DeKeyser and grandchildren, Karyssa DeKeyser and Ryan DeKeyser. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Doris Roush, a sister, Joy Roush, her former husband, Gary Miller, and her dogs, Snickerdoodle and Triscuit.
The family would like to thank nurse Ruby at Oaknoll for making Judy feel special, as well as Rhonda Miller from Iowa City Hospice for providing music therapy during the last part of Judy’s life.
