Nolan Kareem Applewhite, 41, resident of North Liberty, IA passed away unexpectedly from natural causes while on vacation with his loving family on Sunday, August 25, 2024.
Nolan was born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 24, 1983, to his parents Louis Earl Sr. and Emily Dianne Applewhite. He grew up in St. Louis before his family moved to Iowa City, where he graduated from West High School. After graduation, Nolan attended Iowa State University earning his bachelors degree in Management Information Systems and was pursuing his Master of Business Administration degree in Project Management through the University of Phoenix. Nolan was employed by Trimble Transportation as a Senior Business Support Analayst and CVS/Aetna as an Informatics Manager.
Nolan met the love of his life RaShauna Starks of Waterloo during college. They were united in marriage on August 30th, 2008. They share 4 beautiful children: Amauri (14 yrs), Aidan (12 yrs), Nalani (10 yrs), and Canon (5 yrs). He was passionate about his family. He loved traveling with them and was also dedicated to being present at all their sports and extracurricular activities daily. To know Nolan and his infectious smile was to love him. He will forever live on in his children.
Nolan was an avid sports fan, especially basketball. He talked about sports to everyone he was around and was a true fan of the sports teams he loved. He was especially devoted to the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Cowboys, and St. Louis Cardinals. More importantly he was generous, kind, and a loyal friend.
Nolan leaves behind to cherish memories of his wife RaShauna Applewhite; sons Amauri Kareem, Aidan Myles, and Canon Kobe; and daughter Nalani Elle – all of North Liberty, IA. His mother Emily Dianne Applewhite of Coralville. He is also survived by his brothers: Louis (Crystal) Applewhite of Tennessee, and Jason (Lacinda) Applewhite of Texas, and their mother Vickie Applewhite of St. Louis. Also leaving behind father and mother-in-law Marc Starks and Doris Starks of Waterloo.
He was welcomed in heaven by his father Louis Earl Applewhite Sr., maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Levert and Lou Ida Johnson, and paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Earline Applewhite. His uncle Arnold Johnson, aunt Claudette Wade, and cousin Robert Tarik Parks.
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Grace Community Church, 2707 Dubuque St. NE, North Liberty, IA, 52317. Celebration of Life service to begin at 1:00 PM also at Grace Community Church with a reception to follow.
