Mary Alice Ockenfels, 82, died Monday, August 26, 2024, at Lantern Park Specialty Care Center in Coralville, IA.

A Celebration of Mary’s Life is planned for a later date in Urbana, IA.

Mary was born July 15, 1942, in Norway, Iowa, the daughter of Leo L and Jeanette M (Lichty) Ockenfels. She was a graduate of Regina High School. She married James K Swails, the son of Kenneth E & Lucille R (Wince) Swails in Jan 1962.

Mary was a longtime employee of Moore Business Forms. She had a strong work ethic, always caring for her children. She enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage and euchre, and bowling.

Survivors include her children, Carrie M (Doran) Last of Rock Falls, IL, Theresa J (Fred) Mikula of Geneva, IL, Christina L (Jeffrey) Hayes of Iowa City, and Timothy J Swails of Walford, IA; four grandchildren, Robin A Nardone, Tyler J Mikula, Cessily R Hayes, and Tabitha R Burns; siblings, Leo “Butch” Ockenfels (Colleen) of Vinton, IA, Bernadette Carratura of Cadillac, MI, and James (Terry) Ockenfels of Rock Hill, SC; and numerous extended family.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, John J Ockenfels, David E Ockenfels, Sharon Ockenfels, Jeannette M Ockenfels, Lawrence Ockenfels, Joanne Brownlie, Rosalind J Strabala; and her fiancée, Michael T McGuire.
