Dorothy (Dot) Maxine Spicer, 96, of Wellman, formerly of Iowa City, passed away with her loving family at her side on August 22nd, 2024, at Parkview Manor.

Dorothy was born on November 25,1927 in Roseville, IL to Clifford and Florence (Lee) Hickman. She grew up in Roseville and Macomb, IL where she graduated from Macomb High School. Dorothy then went on to attend Macomb State Teachers College.

She married the love of her life Paul Spicer on August 22,1948 in Roseville and together they enjoyed 52 years of marriage before his death in 2000. In 1955, the family settled in Iowa City where they would raise their two children.

Dorothy was devoted to her career at the University of Iowa Psychology Department. After 31 years, she retired in 1993 as a senior psych attendant. She also spent over 30 years as a CNA at Briarwood Health Care Center.

Dorothy enjoyed camping, baking, knitting and candy making.

She is survived by her children Larry Spicer of South English, IA and Robin (Jeff) Kent of Wellman; 4 grandchildren: Chandra (Aaron) Harper, Brandon (Kenzie) Kent, Misty (Eric) Bierwagen, and Matthew (Megan) Kent; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and sister-in-law Janet Hickman.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law Barbra Spicer, brother Lawerence Hickman, grandson Justin Kent, and great-granddaughter Joelle Kent.

A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held on Sunday, September 8th, 2024, from 2-5PM at Red Haw Shelter in Kent Park near Tiffin, IA.

A private urn burial will be at Point Pleasant Cemetery in Roseville, IL at a later date.
