PEGGY L. ELDER
Rogers, Arkansas

Peggy L. ELDER, 92, of Rogers, Arkansas and formerly of Mt. Pleasant and Fairfield, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2024 in Rogers, Arkansas.

Peggy was born on January 16, 1932, at the family home in Keokuk County, Iowa the daughter of Clarence W. and Myrtle (TELLER) SHIRKEY. She started school in the fall of 1937 at Abington (sic) and attended country schools in Lockridge-Glasgow, Mt. Pleasant and graduating from Fairfield High School in 1950. Peggy was united in marriage to Merlin Charles ELDER on May 12, 1951, at the First Christian Church in Fairfield. He preceded her in death on December 26, 1982.

Peggy and Merlin were very active in the Fairfield Square Dance Club. They also enjoyed playing cards and many different activities with friends and family. Peggy was active in the Libertyville Methodist Church and later in the First Christian Church in Fairfield. She helped with Brownies, Girl Scouts and 4-H. She helped her husband on the farm and enjoyed gardening and canning. In her quiet time she enjoyed working in her flower beds, feeding and watching the birds and squirrels. After the death of Merlin, she stayed on the farm for a few years before moving into Fairfield, where she helped her mother and worked at the Community Child Care Center and for Royse Huff & Associates until moving to Mt. Pleasant in 1996.

Those thankful for sharing in her life are her daughters, Diane (Ron) BEVER and Lori (Jim) MORIARTY, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, along with nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Donna VAN BLARICOM and two brothers, Wilbur SHIRKEY and Darrol Dean SHIRKEY.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield. Memorials may be directed to the Evergreen Cemetery Association or the donor's choice.
