Death Claims Newton Woman
Miss Gussie Griebeling, Prominent Business Woman, Dies At Home Here This MorningMiss Gussie Griebeling passed peacefully away at her home here early Friday morning, after a long, brave struggle against disease not giving up hope even to the very last.
Miss Griebeling has been ill for more than two years, but it was only in July of this year, when she consulted a specialist, that she would admit the gravity of her condition, and even then she remained perfectly confident that her recovery would be only a matter of a short time.
After July Miss Griebeling gave up her work as an abstractor and remained at her home for a rest, but was up and around all of the time until two weeks ago when her weakened condition made it impossible for her to stay up. She never seemed to suffer and required very little care, grateful always for the little things done for her by friends, many of whom came to see her.
Her trouble was a cancerous growth in the esophagus, just at the entrance of the stomach.
Miss Griebeling was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Griebeling, and was born and reared in this city. She is a graduate of the Newton schools and since that time has been prominent in business circles here.
The abstractor's profession was followed by the deceased and in it she was highly successful, being acknowledged to be one of the best in this part of the state. She learned the profession in the office of E.C. Ogg and later employed for many years by the late W. O. McElroy, attorney. A number of years ago she was employed by H.B. Allfree to care for his large abstract business and this position she very efficiently filled until the time of her final illness.
She has made many real and true friends during her life here both in a business way and socially, and they mourn the death of whom they loved.
Miss Griebeling's three sisters, Ida, Anna and Tillie, are left to survive her. The four had been very happy in their home here which they kept up after the death of the mother in 1917.
Funeral services will be held at the home at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Dr. G.C. Williams conducting the service.
