Ronald A. Wetjen, age 81, of Homestead, passed away Friday, March 14, 2025, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Visitation: 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 20, 2025, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo, with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Daniel Krueger officiating. Burial with military honors conducted by the Marengo American Legion Post #76 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard will be at the Marengo Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa Veterans Home. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is caring for Ron and his family.

Ron is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy of Homestead; his children, Tammy (Todd) Wetjen-Kesterson of Marengo, and their daughter, Kayla Kesterson, and her daughter Kingslee Kesterson; Heath (Kristel) Wetjen of North Liberty and their daughters, Ella, Myah and Kaitlyn Wetjen; and Georgia Wetjen of Iowa City and her son, Cody Wetjen.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Gordon and Jim Wetjen.

Ronald Allen Wetjen was born May 5, 1943, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of George and Edna (Trimpe) Wetjen. He went to Central Lutheran School and graduated from Newhall High School in 1961. Ron studied accounting at Kirkwood Community College. He served in the U.S. Army for five years, he was stationed in Germany, and White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. Ron was united in marriage to Judy Steinmetz on October 16, 1971, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service and the Big G Grocery Store. Ron was a founding member, historian and color guard at the Charles Horton American Legion Post #739 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Ron especially loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, but above all cherished his grandchildren and his great-granddaughter Kingslee.
