Ervin C. Stamp, age 95, of Holstein, Iowa passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center of Cherokee, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 2, 2014 at the United Methodist Church of Holstein, Iowa. The Reverend Doresa K Collogan will officiate. Burial will follow in the Holstein Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Dessel-Schmidt Post No. 225 of the American Legion and Masonic Services will be conducted by the Alpine Lodge No. 471 all of Holstein, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., on Thursday October 2, 2014 at the United Methodist Church, of Holstein, Iowa. The Christensen ~ Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Ervin Charles Stamp was born to Carl and Celia (Wulf) Stamp on January 20, 1919, on a farm located near Holstein, Iowa. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith on October 12, 1919 and confirmed in his faith on March 25, 1934. Ervin attended country school three miles east of Holstein, Iowa. After country school Ervin attended high school in Galva, Iowa for three years and transferred his last year to the Holstein high school where he graduated. On September 14, 1941, Ervin was united into marriage to Ethel Mae Lenth, at her home in Battle Creek, Iowa. To this union three children were born; Gary, Linda and Bradley. After a short time working for the Council Oak Food store in Worthington, Minnesota. Ervin worked for his father for a brief period before enlisting. He entered the Air Force on November 1, 1942. Ervin was honorably discharged on March 30, 1946. Upon arriving back Ervin became a substitute rural mail carrier while farming again. Later he became a regular carrier and when they moved to Holstein, Iowa in 1960 and he retired from farming. In 1964 he was transferred to the Galva, Iowa Post Office where he served out of both Galva & Schaller until his retirement on December 15, 1978 due to health issues. Ervin served his government for thirty-two years and ten months. Ervin belonged to the Farm &Town Club, United Methodist Church, Masons (member for 60 years), Eastern Star, Charter Secretary of the NFO, Rural Mail Carriers Association (member for 50 years), A Life member of the American Legion and 40/8. Ervin was very active in both the Legion and 40/8, holding local, county, district, and state offices. A Member of the Million Mile Club and served on the Methodist Church board. Ervin was instrumental in getting the Striepe Memorial built out at the Holstein Cemetery, and also started the 40/8 in Northwestern Iowa along with Clarence Askland’s help. Ervin is survived by his loving wife, Ethel Mae Stamp of Cherokee, Iowa; children, Gary Stamp of Des Moines, Iowa; Linda Judkins of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Bradley Stamp of Manchester, New Hampshire; grandchildren, Jeremy, Amanda, Brad, and Jaclyn; and two great grandchildren.
