Dan Nielsen, age 39, of Omaha, Nebraska (formerly of Battle Creek, Iowa) passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2022, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center of Omaha, Nebraska. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 19, 2022, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. Rev. Randy D. Cormeny will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery of Battle Creek, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Friday, November 18, 2022, at the Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Daniel Roger Nielsen was born on September 20, 1983, at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, to Roger and Joan (Stocks) Nielsen. He passed from his earthly life on November 13, 2022, at UNMC in Omaha, Nebraska. Dan graduated from BCIG High School and Morningside College (University). He worked at Deron’s FoodTown in Battle Creek, Riddle’s Jewelry in Sioux City, Brodkey Jewelry in Council Bluffs, Riddles Jewelry at Oak View in Omaha and TDAmeritrade/Charles Schwab. Dan loved his job. He was known for his “dad” jokes at work; especially as he celebrated his 5-year anniversary there last week with his team. He enjoyed playing, coaching, and watching baseball (especially the Chicago Cubs), playing guitars, listening to music and composing, fishing, and smoking ribs. His sense of humor, his love for Ninja Turtles, Mario Brothers and dinosaurs, his caring spirit, and his enthusiasm were his trademark. He was baptized and confirmed at the St. John Lutheran Church in Battle Creek and was active at Spirit Life Assemblies of God in Omaha. Survivors include his parents Roger and Joan Nielsen of Battle Creek, IA; soulmate April Reitz and four beloved “cubs”: Clarissa, Mark, Turner, and Edward of Bellevue, NE; aunts, uncles, cousins, many loyal friends, and “adopted” family members. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Chester and Mabel Stocks and Einar and Lucia Nielsen; aunts KayAnn Hazelton and Cindy Nielsen; and cousin Korver Kara Hazelton.
