Tobias T. Thompson was born May 4, 1871, near Meroa, Mitchell County, Iowa. He was baptized in the Rock Creek Lutheran Church. A year or so later, his parents moved to a farm near Royal, Clay Co., Iowa, traveling by team and wagon to the homestead from Algona, the end of the railroad at that time. In the fall of 1878 the family moved to Buena Vista County.
He attended the country schools until the fall of 1888 when attended Luther College for one term. The next year he attended the Northwester Normal College at Lemars for one term. In 1885 he was confirmed into his Christian faith in the Little Sioux Valley Church, by the Rev. G. Gulbransen.
In 1890 he entered the employment of Hunter and Rae, a hardware firm in Sioux Rapids. He continued with this firm until 1906 when he resigned in order to accept a position as traveling salesman for the Moline Plow Company in the state of Utah. He traveled in the interest of this farm machinery company until 1920, when he retired. Much of his traveling in his earliest years in the road was done by stagecoach.
On June 1st, 1898, he was united in marriage with Julia Jacobson of Sioux Rapids. After the many years spent in Utah, the Thompsons moved to Pasadena, California in 1921. They moved back to Iowa in 1925. Mrs. Thompson passed away in 1929.
Mr. Thompson was married to Mrs. Viola Granseth, April 22, 1931, to which one son was born, Raymond Elwood in 1933.
Always interested in civic affairs, Mr. Thompson served as mayor of the town of Bode for several terms and also served on the Board of Christian Education in the St. Olaf Lutheran Church. He was intensely interested in agricultural pursuits aid while his health permitted, he made frequent trips to his farms near Sioux Rapids. He enjoyed gardening and had other interests but his main hobby and pastime in recent years was the refinishing and fashioning of black walnut furniture.
Mr. Thompson enjoyed good health until August, 1942, when he underwent a major operation from which he never fully recovered. He had been in poor health since May 1944. The last several weeks he had been bedfast and death came to him Wednesday evening, August 1, 1945.
Besides his wife and son, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. A.E. Gunderson of Minneapolis, and Mrs. N.O. Konserud of Sioux Falls and two brothers, J.F. Thompson of Northfield and N.J. Thompson of Minneapolis. Also a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Amanda and Bertha (Mrs. Sigmund Hage).

Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 0 (perhaps 10) o'clock from the Thompson residence and 10:30 from St. Olaf Lutheran church, Rev. Trygstad officiating.
Addition to the service was song service, "I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say". Many floral tributes were received.
Pallbearers were J.P. Jensen, J.M. Rood, Torkel Aure, Edward Mosbo, Sigurd Sorensen, Harold Hermstad.
After the service a luncheon was served in the home before the funeral procession left for Sioux Rapids where services were held in the Lutheran Church, Rev. Hatton officiating. Shirley Borstad was the soloist. Interment was made in Lone Tree Cemetery at Sioux Rapids.

Ponkham of Goldfield; Clarence Nevoe and Roy of Ridgeway, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Damborg, Rolfe; Mr. and Mrs. Nissen of Renwick; Mrs. Gregorson and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Opheim and daughter of Livermore; Mrs. Herman Underberg, Mrs. Bob Underberg, Mrs. Vern Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Holden, Mrs. Sam Smith and daughter, Mrs. Albert Jensen, and Lena Sambo of Humboldt.
