Janet L. Neubauer, age 80, of Cresco, IA, died Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco, Iowa.
Memorial Services for Janet will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home Cresco, with Pastor Dan Baldwin officiating. Burial will take place in New Oregon Cemetery in Spring 2025. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11:00 – 1:00 P.M. on Saturday.
Janet Louise Dotzler was born on April 29, 1944, in Cresco, IA, oldest daughter of John and Lois (Peterson) Dotzler. Her family lived in Kendallville until she was 6 years old. Janet graduated from Cresco High School. On April 16, 1965, she married Zachary Parnell Neubauer in front of the Justice of the Peace in New Hampton. The couple lived for a short time in Sioux Falls, SD before moving and spending the next 26 years in Oregon, WI. While living in Oregon, WI, Janet provided in-home daycare for several local families. Janet began working at Wal-Mart in Decorah after she and Zach moved back to Cresco to be closer to their families.
To say that Janet was an Elvis mega fan would be an understatement. She might not remember all of her sibling’s birthdays, but she could tell you when Elvis was born. It is fitting that she died the day before Elvis’ birthday which is January 8th. Janet collected Elvis memorabilia, listened to his music, sailed on an Elvis cruise ship, and attended Elvis Explosion in La Crosse, WI every year.
Having lived in Wisconsin for nearly 3 decades, Janet was a Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers fan. She liked to attend hockey games and watch wrestling and football. Janet enjoyed bowling. At the end of each bowling season her team would take a trip out to Las Vegas.
After a horrific car accident in 2010 life slowed down for Janet. She liked being at home with game shows playing on the TV all day long or eating out at Sue-Z-Q’s.
She is survived by her step daughter Teri Lynn (Dan) Vagts of Cresco; siblings Shirley (Jerry) Hudecek of Mason City, IA, David Dotzler of Elma, IA, Mary (Ralph) Flugge of Cresco, IA, Dale Dotzler of Cresco, IA, Arlene Dotzler of Cresco, IA, Kathy Aberg of Hartford, IA, Scott Dotzler of Cresco, IA, Kenny Dotzler of Cresco, IA, brother-in-law Harold Meyer of Cresco, IA, and many nieces and nephews.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, husband Zachary Neubauer, daughter Brenda Neubauer, infant sister Angela, sister Diane Meyer, brother Gary Dotzler, brother-in-law Fred Aberg, niece Alicia (Aberg) Ellis and nephew Jake Aberg.
Following the service at the funeral home, there will be a luncheon held in the basement of McAllister’s Catering and Heritage Event Center 229 3rd Ave West Cresco.
