Woman Dies At 100Jessie Ada Rains, one of Fairfield's oldest residents, died Saturday evening at the Parkview Care Center at the age of 100.
She celebrated her century birthday at the care center in June this year where she had been a resident the past five years. She drove her car until she was 95 years old.
The family home was at 800 E. Burlington for many years. She sold the home, handling all the affairs herself, just before moving to the care center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Bartruff officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Members of the family will receive visitors at the funeral home this evening from 7 to 8 p.m.
Jessie Rains was born June 12, 1877 in Henry County near Trenton. She was the daughter of John and Nancy Roth Salzman. She was reared and educated in the Trenton Community.
At the age of 16 she moved to Fairfield to work as a dress maker. Her marriage to Charles W. Rains took place April 30, 1900, in Fairfield. He died in 1949.
Mrs. Rains was a member of the United Methodist Church, Chapter HA of PEO, and the Fairfield Golf and Country Club.
Mrs. Rains is survived by a brother, Arthur Salzman, Bloomington, Ill., and one stepbrother.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two sisters and one stepbrother.
