Ivan Dean James died Aug. 31, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 84 years, four months, and 26 days. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Ivan was born April 5, 1933, to William and Beulah (Green) James in Corning, Iowa. He was raised in the Stanton area and attended school there. Ivan proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He served on the USS Lowrey during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge he worked for Bushog Eaton Corporation. He then worked as a maintenance engineer for the Omaha Public Schools. Ivan married Joan Delezene Burgmeyer on May 2, 1976, in Fremont, Neb. Ivan retired from OPS, moved to Woodbine, and later to Modale. Ivan loved to fish and work on jigsaw puzzles. He also enjoyed reading western books. He was a proud member of the American Legion.
Ivan was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan James; daughter, Suzette James; son, Donald Burgmeyer; five brothers, Keith, Ronald, Cleo, LaVerne and Delbert James; and one sister, Eula Mae Long. He is survived by his seven children, Debbie Merrill of Modale, Cindy James of Tigard, Ore., Timmy (Pat) James of Nevada, Texas., Leslie Moser of Modale, David Burgmeyer of Omaha, Neb., Billy James of Tigard, Ore., Korena Gray of Trigard, Ore.; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
