Mrs. Malene Sorhus Passes Away
Mrs. Malene Sorhus, an aged lady who has been making her home with Miss Anna Westre in the house across the street west from the Theodore Jacobson home, passed away Thursday of last week, January 30th, death resulting from old age. Mrs. Sorhus had been gradually weakening for the past two years, and at the time of her death was 93 years and 5 days of age.
Mrs. Sorhus was born Jan. 25, 1820, in Skjold parish, Norway, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ingebrigt Ingebrigtson. As a child she was baptized and confirmed in her homeland. She was married to Mr. Elias Olson Sorhus, who died in 1885 in Norway. Since then she has remained a widow. In the summer of 1889 she emigrated to America, then a quite old lady of 69 years of age. She came to Hamilton county and for about 19 years made her home with a niece, Mrs. Michael Olson, living southwest of Jewell. She then stayed for some time with a nephew, Mrs. O. J. Ness, at New Sharon, Iowa. During the last two years of her life she has made her home with Miss Anne Westre in Jewell, being supported there by the niece and nephew. Throughout her long life she has been a faithful Christian woman and died in peace with her maker.
The funeral services were conducted Saturday by her pastor, Rev. Eastvold from the Lutheran church, and the body was laid at rest in Evergreen cemetery.
