OBITUARYJacob Cassens passed away at his home 5 miles northeast of Jewell, Tuesday evening, January 16th, after a prolonged illness. The deceased was born in Hanover, Germany, March 21, 1839. He came to America when a young man and settled in Illinois and has made that state his home until a few years ago when he moved to Iowa. He was united in marriage Feb. 27, 1867 to Mrs. Johnson. To this union were born two children, Mrs. H. D. Blue of Webster City and Mrs. M. J. Mewes of Golden, Illinois. After the death of his wife, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Grace Atkins, May 10th, 1881. To this union were born four children, Jacob who died when a young man, Edith and Anna who are at home, and Mrs. Gerber of N. Dak. Left to mourn his loss is a widow, five daughters, also three step-sons, John and Will Atkins, who is at home and Mrs. T. Arnold, of Kamrar.
The deceased was 72 years, 9 months and 25 days old at the time of his death. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Walter George, of Webster City, the pastor of the Lutheran church at that place. Interment was made at Homewood cemetery north of Ellsworth. All his children were present at the funeral.
