K. Iverson Passed Away

Knute Iverson, one of Jewell's prominent and respected citizens passed away at his home at three-thirty o'clock last Friday morning. Artery corosis is given as the cause of death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, at one-thirty o'clock from Bethesda Lutheran church. The service was conducted by the pastor, Rev. Martin Norstad, assisted by Rev. T. J. Knutson of Radcliffe.

Messrs. Helge Maland, Jens Larson, Barney Thompson, John Holt, Oscar Ostrem and O. N. Sexy, the latter of Ellsworth, were pall bearers. The body was laid the rest in Evergreen cemetery. The burial services were attended by a large crowd of friends and neighbors of the departed, gathered to pay the last tender tribute of respect to his memory. The high esteem in which he was held by all was mutely but eloquently witnessed by the many very beautiful floral offerings.

Knute Iverson was born to Oppedahl, Hardanger, Norway, August 12, 1840, and died in Jewell, February 5, 1915, aged 74 years, 5 months, and 24 days. He learned the blacksmithing trade in Norway, working three years as an apprentice and three years as a master workman. He then came to America, arriving here June 9, 1869, and settling at Rochelle, Ill. He worked there at the blacksmith trade for a few years, then moved to Lee, Ill., where he lived 27 years. At Lee he was married June 18, 1873, to Miss Julia Prestegard. He moved to Jewell August 2, 1960, where he has since resided. He continued to work at his trade after coming to Jewell until the last few years, but had not enjoyed his former rugged health after moving to Jewell and in the last few years has failed quite rapidly. Since last August he has been unable to walk, but was up in his wheel chair until just the day before his death.

He is survived by his wife and six children, the latter being Martha (Mrs. W. E. Munson) of Chicago, Iver of Jewell, Goldie of Chicago, and Ida, George and Clarence of Jewell. Two daughters died when children. He is also survived by two brothers, Swen Oppedahl of Goldfield, and Lars Oppedahl of Oakland, Calif., also by three sisters, Mrs. John Berven, of Sebastopol, Calif., and sisters Martha and Christie of Norway.

Mr. Iverson was a member of the Lutheran church at Lee, Ill., where he lived so many years, having never transferred his membership here. He was always faithful and loyal to his belief, and a man of rare gentleness and kindness, and an absolute honesty and integrity. He had the unbounded respect and confidence of everybody who knew him and was in every sense of the word a good man.
