Edward Crowell, Jr. (1840-1921)

Edward Crowell was the eldest of nine children of Edward and Caroline Parsons Crowell. His younger brothers and sisters were Abigail, James M., Silas W. (who settled in Floyd County), Oren L., John, Esther, Charles W., and Lillie. Edward, Jr. was born December 16, 1840, in Centerville, New York, and he moved with his parents to Walworth County, Wisconsin in 1843. He settled in Ulster Township in 1856 and enlisted in Company G., Twenty-seventh Iowa Infantry in 1862, serving until 1864. That June he married Sarah J. Porter and to them six children were born - Dora L., Clyde A., Clarence H., Guy Edward, Ida M. and Clifford J. Clarence began an implement firm in Rockford in 1909, was mayor of the town and on the city council for several terms. He died in 1931. Clifford, who married Rose Frances Murphy in 1904, famred until 1912, when he estabished a windmill and pump sevice, a business that remained in Rockford for the next 40 years.
