OTTUMWA - Maxine L. VanNess, 89, formerly of 827 Albia Road, died at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 4, 1999, at Bloomfield Care Center.
She was born March 14, 1910, in Packwood to Ned G. and Viva McClain Oliver. She married Rollin Hufsmith. She later married Ward W. VanNess on Sept. 20, 1947, he died March 27, 1973.
A resident of Ottumwa most of her life, she worked for Ottumwa Regional Health Center as an obstetrics nurse for 35 years, retiring in 1972.
She is survived by three daughter, Mary Bray of Ottumwa, Patricia Tom of Syracrse, N.Y., and Glenda Farrier of Atlantic; two stepsons, Gary VanNess of Steamboat, Nev., and Bion Thompson of Albia; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Agnes Scarvie of Pleasanton, Calif., and Margaret Rafalko of Liverpool, N.Y.
The body has been cremated.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home, the Rev. Margaret Butler of Trinity Episcopal Church officiating. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.
Family will be at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday.
Memorials may be made to Vista Woods Care Center or Ottumwa Regional Health Foundation for the nursery.
