John Frederich Hopp did not serve in the 21st Illinois, he served in Company D, 21st Iowa Volunteer Infantry. His updated roster listing follows:

HOPP, John Frederich. Age 37. Residence Volga City, nativity Germany. Enlisted Aug. 12, 1862. Mustered Aug. 22, 1862. Discharged for disability March 23, 1863, St. Genevieve, MO.
Invalid's Pension filed, May 3, 1880. Died June 2, 1917, Arlington, IA. Buried Taylorsville Cemetery, Fayette County, IA.

Beginning with his roster listing from Logan, with information from his pension file and his find-a-grave memorial.
