OBITUARY - NORMA (LATHAM) SWEET

Norma SWEET, 82, of Arispe, died on Sunday, May 24, 2009, at the Greater
Regional Hospice Home in Creston.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009, at the United Methodist
Church in Arispe. Pastor Jerry HOFF will officiate. Burial will be at the
Greenlawn Cemetery near Afton. Open visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday
with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at the Powers Funeral Home at the
junctions of highways 25 & 34 Creston.

Memorials may be made to the Arispe United Methodist Church. Online

Norma Jean SWEET, daughter of John W. and Cleone R. (LONG) LATHAM, was born
Oct. 3, 1926, near Arispe. She graduate from Arispe High School in 1944. On
Oct. 3, 1944, she married Francis E. SWEET in Shannon City. They lived all
their married life in the Afton, Ellston and Arispe communities. They retired
from farming in 1987, moving into Arispe.

Norma was a member of the Arispe United Methodist Church, serving every office
and on the Board of Trustees, and with the Quilters. She organized church
suppers and dinners for 32 years, within the church and community. She
assisted on the Union County Fair Board, and on the Arispe Development
Committee, and was a very active volunteer at the Afton Care Center. Norma was
named Mother of the Year in 1979.

Survivors include her two sons, Dennis (wife Pauline) SWEET of Shannon City
and Jack SWEET of Afton; a daughter, Sandra (husband Ed) FRY of Arispe; two
grandsons, Michael (wife Ellie) FRY of Arispe, and Curtis (wife Lisa) FRY of
Afton; four great-grandchildren, Kennady, Kamren, Steven, and Trevor FRY; two
brothers, John (wife Dorie) LATHAM of Creston, and Earl LATHAM of Murray; and
a sister, Joyce (husband Dick) ROSS of Shannon City.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Francis in 1995, and
a sister-in-law, Joyce.
