PETER O. JOHNSON
Peter O. Johnson, was born in Jemtland, Sweden, April 30, 1865, and passed awa Sunday, Sept 1, 1949, in Veterans hospital, Miami, Fla., at the age of 84 years, 4 months and 18 days.

He came from Sweden in 1870 and settled at Lockport, Ill. Johnson arrived in Liberty township, Cherokee County, Ia., in 1871.

Mr. Johnson was a school instructor for 25o years most of the time in Liberty township and for a short period in South Dakota. From 1908 to 1918 he served as a mail carrier at Meriden. He moved to Saskatchewan, Canada, in 1918 where he purchased a farm and began farming.

He later moved to Vancouver, Canada and resided there 13 years. Mr. Johnson was a Spanish-American War veteran. For the last year he had made his home in Florida.

He was the last surviving member of his family, being preceded in death by three brothers, John, Merkmere, S. D.; Erick, Post Falls, Ida.,; Nels, Liberty township; two sisters: Mrs. Martha Carlson, Minneapolis; Anna Olson, Dundee, Minn.

Mr. Johnson is survived by one son, Robert Johnson, and four stepchildren, Carl, Liberty township; John, Sioux City, and Adolph, Thayer, Mo., and Mrs. Hannah Bergstrom. His wife survives and is now residing at Miami. He is also survived by nieces and nephews and grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted from Boothby Funeral Home Saturday, Sept 24 and a military burial was in Liberty cemetery.
