Margaret Eleanor Midland, 74, of Cherokee, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, in the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital, Cherokee, following a brief illness.
Memorial Services will be held Friday at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee.
She was born March 9, 1928, in Eagle Grove, Iowa to Archie and Vernita (Miller) Willard. She attended schools in Eagle Grove, graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1946. On Aug 31., 1947 she married Lyle Midland in Eagle grove. They moved to Cherokee in 1949.Margaret was a talented artist who participated in many juried art shows from 1958 to 1980. She was the curator of exhibits in the Sanford Museum from 1955-1959. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art Education in 1974 from Buena Vista College. She taught art in the Meriden-Cleghorn School system from 1977-1979. Margaret participated in the Minnesota Renaissance Festival from 1981-1992 and was currently the owner of Spring Hill Garden Gallery. She was on the Iowa Arts Council and had her works displayed in many area art shows. Margaret was also actively involved with the Cherokee Community Theater for many years.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Debbie Kollman and her husband, Jim, of Denison; Diane Wagner and her husband, Richard, of Atlantic, Georgia; 1 son, Tom Midland and his wife Kerry, of Le Mars; 5 grandchildren, Nate and Elizabeth Judson, McIntire, Molly, Tyler and Kelli Midland; 3 great grandchildren, Emma, Will and Lydia Rose; 1 sister, Arlene Harrigan and her husband, John of Glendale, Calif; 1 brother, Archie Willard and his wife, Wanda, of Eagle Grove.
