Ray W. Jansen, 71, died Saturday, Feb. 16 at 6 a.m. at his home, 518 East Spruce St. in Cherokee following a 1 ½ year illness.

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 18 from the First Church of Christ. Mr. Karl Peterson officiated. Burial was in the Liberty Cemetery, rural Meriden. The Boothby Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

He was born Sept. 25, 1919, at Ayrshire to William J. and Emma Lucht Jansen. He graduated from Ruthven High School. He graduated from Northwest Iowa Technical College at Sheldon with a degree in drafting. He was married to Pearl Taylor in 1939. He was later married to Bernadine Booth Campbell on April 11, 1964, at South Sioux City, Neb. He had been a long time Cherokee resident. He worked as a route salesman for Old Home Bread of Sioux City. He had been a salesman for National Farm and Home Store, Munson Furniture Store, and Spaen Furniture, all of Cherokee, retiring in 1982. He attended the First Church of Christ in Cherokee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Albert Jansen.

He is survived by his wife, Bernadine; one daughter, Mrs. Ray (Carolyn) Haley, Spencer; two stepsons and two stepdaughters, Gerald Campbell of Albuquerque, N. M., Richard Campbell of Mesa, Ariz., Carolyn Smith of Cherokee, and Mrs. Roger (Paulette) Steinberg of Rochester, Minn.; one grandson; eight step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
