Services for Lois Miller, 46, former West Branch resident, were held at Rialto, Calif. Dec. 26, 1989. Mrs. Miller was shot and killed in a robbery attempt outside her home at San Bernadino, Calif. by 2 men attempting to rob her and her daughter.

The murder took place at 10:50 p.m. Dec. 19. Her daughter, Julie, who was in the car with her, was lying down and escaped injury. The men involved are suspected of the kidnapping and rape of another woman.

The daughter of Edward and Lillian Ruzek Furchtenicht, she was born in Cedar county. She graduated from West Branch high school in 1961 and later worked at Northwestern Bell and the Iowa City Press Citizen. She moved to San Bernadino after her marriage to Roger Miller in Rock Island, Ill. The couple was later divorced.

She is survived by her daughter; a son, Darrin, stationed in the navy at Norfolk, Va. and a brother, Richard Furchtenicht, West Branch.
