Robert Lee Voss
(October 6, 1928 - August 18, 2014)

Robert L. Voss, age 85, passed away on August 18, 2014, at the Pomeroy Care Center. Robert Lee Voss was born on October 6, 1928, in Pomeroy. He was the son of Henry and Esther (Tjebben) Voss. Bob graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1946. He was a member of the State of Iowa high school baseball championship team in the fall of 1945. After he finished his education, Bob worked construction in the area. He served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. After his discharge, he returned to work as a deputy for the Calhoun County Sheriff. On November 26, 1954, Bob married Lois Layman Goetz, a widow with two children, at Carroll. The couple made their home in Rockwell City. In 1964, they moved to Ankeny, where Bob worked for the DCI. They later lived in Polk City and Alleman. Bob retired from the Iowa DOT in 1987. The couple moved to Pomeroy in 1992. Bob was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing when he was able, but he loved law enforcement. Survivors include his wife: Lois; sons: Robert G. Voss of West Des Moines, Scott L. (Tara) Voss of Franklin, TN and Steven T. Voss of Lawton; grandson: Quinn H. Voss of Chattanooga, TN; four step-grandchildren and sister: LeEda (Galord) Paine of Webster City. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and two step children, Mike Goetz and Nancy Goetz.
