Mary L. Schweitzer, 78, of Winthrop, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 12, 2025, in Independence, surrounded by her family.

Mary Louise Kremer was born May 5, 1946, on the family farm near Lamont, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Marcella (Bergfeld) Kremer. In 1964 she graduated from Lamont High School. Mary was united in marriage to Gary Lee Schweitzer on November 28, 1964, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lamont, Iowa. To this union were born two children: Mark and Lisa.

The family farmed northeast of Winthrop from 1964 until Gary retired in 2007. Mary enjoyed the farm, tending flowers, planting fruit trees, and watching wildlife. She was an avid learner and took great pride in her ability to fix things for herself.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gary on April 14, 2013; and her son: Mark on November 13, 2020.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Lisa Schweitzer, and her son-in-law, Andrew Miller.

Visitation: Noon to 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 17, 2025, at the Fawcett-Schmitz Funeral Home in Winthrop, Iowa.

Interment: Fremont Township Cemetery, rural Winthrop.

Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Research Hospital.
