Helen M. Robinson, 82, of Independence, IA, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, IA.

Helen was born on July 16, 1942, in Rigby, ID, the daughter of George and Annie L. (Elliot) Sucher. She grew up in rural Walker, IA, and was a 1960 graduate of Quasqueton High School. She married Charles L. Robinson on November 20, 1960, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence, IA. They made their home in Walker, IA, before moving to Independence in 1968. For a short time, she worked as a waitress at the Station House and candling chicken eggs at the Hatchery in Independence. In 1978, Helen started working at West Village in Independence as a cook. After thirty-five years she retired in 2013.

Helen was an active member of the Walker community even after she moved out of the community. She was a member of the Spencer Grove Community Club and had a card group she loved to play with.

She had an active personality and often shared her wit and strong opinions with family and friends. She had a strong voice and didn’t mind being the center of attention during get-togethers. Helen loved how close-knit her family was. She always made an effort to stay up to date on the lives of her daughters and grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Carla (Raymond) Gienau, Rowley, IA, and Caylene (Drew) Foley, Shawnee, KS, five grandchildren, Chad Gienau, Carrie (Brian) Cooper, Bradley (Tavia) Foley, Matt Foley, and Jeremey Foley, four great-grandchildren, and several Nieces and nephews.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, George and Annie Sucher, her husband, Charles Robinson, a brother, Harold Sucher, and a sister, Georgia Maughan.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2 PM until 5 PM on Sunday, January 12, 2025, in the Community Room of the Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home and Crematory in Independence, IA.

Inurnment will be held at Spencer Grove Cemetery Walker, IA.
