Johanna Chevalier's obituary said that her husband died on December 4, 1917. It appears that is incorrect. He died on December 4, 1918.
His obituary:
Ernest A. Chevalier died at his home, 327 Sumner street, at 1:15 a. m. today. Pneumonia resulting from influenza caused death. Decedent was born Jan. 16, 1874, and had lived practically all his life in Waterloo. He had been employed at the Illinois Central shops about 26 years. Surviving are the widow and 5 children, Madeline, Josephine, Florence, Leonard and Irene, all at home. Also his mother, Mrs. Lavina Chevalier; two brothers, Charles and John and three sisters, Mrs. Joe Shiel, Mrs. George Payne and Mrs. Ruth Otto, all of Waterloo. Funeral services will be at the home at 2 p.m. Friday. Burial in Calvary. Mr. Chevalier was a member of St Mary's Catholic church.The Courier --- Waterloo, Iowa
