June 5, 1935 - September 23, 2012Donald E. Mayes, 77 of Springdale died Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Regency Hospital in Springdale. He was born June 5, 1935 in Goshen to Kendall and Emma Bessie Kelly Mayes.
Donald was a brick mason and he also worked for Hyland Dairy for many years. He was a member of Cross Church of Springdale where he was active in the bus ministry. Donald served in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Tired Iron of the Ozarks Branch 37 and Blacksmithers of Arkansas. Donald was an icon to everyone and a great friend to all. He had great devotion and passion for hunting diamonds at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro.
Survivors include his wife of forty nine years Mollie McKinney Mayes of the home; three daughters, DeAnne McGaugh and husband Alex of Ocean Springs, MS, Dawn Barnes and husband Michael of Springdale and Delores Breeding and husband Brant of Springdale; three brothers, Carl Mayes of Morrow, Bobby Preston Mayes of Paradise, Montana and Larry Mayes of Fayetteville; one sister, Peggy Wilson of Fayetteville; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 12pm at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale with Rev. Charlie Foster and Joe Dorman officiating. Burial will be at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville with Military Honors.
