More About That
Red Cross Rooster
--------It would seem that in our story
of the Red Cross Rooster in last
week's issue we got a few of our
facts jumbled and we hereby make
haste to correct them.It seems that the rooster was
originally obtained from a German
farmer near Berea instead of from
I. P. Hallock, and was first sold at
Fontanelle. He was also sold at
Audubon for about $3,500 and
then at Exira for $7,076. After
this he was taken to South Dakota
and in all he netted the Red Cross
more than $40,000.After his usefulness in the Red
Cross drive was ended he was kept
by D. R. Jones the auctioneer at
his home in Casey until he began
to grow old, when he was brought
to Exira and mounted by Eugene
Wilson, then sent to the State his-
torical department where it is hop-
ed that his record may be kept for
years to come.
