Nicholas U. Keffeler
Fayette - Mrs. Karl E. Hanson returned this week from Watkins, Ia., where she had been called by the serious illness and death of her brother, Rev Fr. Nicholas U. Keffeler, 67, pastor of St. Patrick's church in Watkins and of parishes in Newhall and Blairstown; Rev Fr Keffeler died in a Cedar Rapids hospital Feb. 19; born May 25, 1880, at Lansing, Ia. studied at Loras College in Dubuque and took his theological course at St Meinard's seminary, Indiana; he was ordained a priest in 1912; was pastor at Stone City, Anamosa and Vinton before going to Watkins in 1930, celebrated his silver anniversary as a priest in June 1937, was member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters; surviving besides Mrs. Hanson of Fayette, two brothers, J. W. Keffeler of Mound City, Kan. and Dr. J Keffeler of Dyersville and four other sisters, Mrs. Joseph Widmeier of Tulsa, Okla., Mrs. R. H. Taylor, Des Moines, Mrs. F. L. Stallsmith of Dubuque and Mrs. O. L. Walters of Mound City, Kan.; a cousin Mrs. Agnes Bachard kept house for Father Keffeler for 30 years;...burial was in Lansing.
