Rites held today for Melvin Husted
Melvin Husted
Shellsburg-Funeral services were held this morning at the Phillips Funeral Home chapel for Melvin Husted, 73, who died Friday at the Keystone Nursing Care Center following a long illness. The Rev. Robert Butler officiated and burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Shellsburg.
He was born April 1, 1907 at Newhall, a son of Albert and Anna Husted, and married Stella Johnson, July 27, 1927, at Shellsburg. He was employed as a mechanic before retiring.
Surviving are his wife, three sons; Merrill, Dick and Wayne of Shellsburg; two daughters Audrey Keel of Shellsburg and Mrs. Milford (Doris) Schulze of Van Horne; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters Jennie Johnston of Long Beach Calif and Marjorie Kelly of Pacoima, Calif.; and Marjorie kelly of Pacoima, Calif.; and one brother, John of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Merrill E. Husted
VINTON: Merrill E. Husted, age 78, died Saturday, October 21, 2006 at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th Street, in Vinton. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery Vinton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday...
Merrill was born January 4, 1928 at Blairstown to Melvin and Stella (Johnson) Husted. He served his nation in the US Army from 1946-1947.
On June 1, 1957 he married Jean Merchant in Cedar Rapids. Merrill worked as a welder at Iowa Manufacturing for 48 years, retiring in 1991
He was a charter member of the Gasoline Engine Club.
Merrill is survived by his wife Jean, one daughter Marilyn (Roger) Mier of Vinton, two sons, Ron Husted of Shellsburg, Robert Husted of Seattle, WA, four grandchildren, Jason Matheny, Melissa Brummer and fiancé Kevin Schueller, Jeremy Brummer and Chelsey Mier, one brother Wayne (Judy) Husted of Shellsburg, two sisters, Audrey Keel of Shellsburg and Doris (Milford) Schulze of Van Horne and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Richard Husted.

Richard (Dick) Husted Sr.
Times- Richard (Dick) Husted Sr. 52, of Shellsburg, died last Thursday at 6:45p.m. at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness.
He was born Jan 26, 1930 in Eldorado Township, Benton county to Melvin and Stella Johnson Husted. He was married to Virginia Slaymaker on Aug. 29, 1953 at Mission chapel in Cedar Rapids.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Virginia Husted of Shellsburg, his mother; Mrs. Stella Husted, also of Shellsburg, a son Richard (Rick) Husted Jr., tow daughters, Mrs Everett (Robin) Leonard of Belle Plaine and Debra Sue Husted, at home, two sisters, Mrs. Audrey Keel of Shellsburg and Mrs. Milford (Doris) Schulze of Van Horne, two brothers, Merrill and Wayne, both of Shellsburg and two grandchildren. His father preceded him in death.
He was employed for 24 years as a fork lift operator at Iowa Manufacturing Co. in Cedar Rapids. He was a member of the Machinist Workers International Union.
Funeral services were held today at 11:00 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert D. Butler officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg...

Stella Husted
SHELLSBURG-Stella Johnson Husted, 89, died early Monday morning, Oct. 20, 1997, at Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart, when she had been a resident since April of 1997.
She was born November 5, 1907 on a farm near Atkins, the daughter of Andrew F. and Martha Risdal Johnson.
On July 27, 1927 she married Melvin Husted at Newhall and for many years the couple made their home in Shellsburg. Mr. Husted died January 28, 1981...
Survivors include two sons, Merrill Husted and his wife, Jean, rural Vinton, and Wayne Husted, Shellsburg; two daughters, Audrey Keel, Shellsburg and Dora Schultz and her husband, Milford, Van Horne. 12 grandchildren 19 great-grandchildren, one brother-in-law, Ival Shultz, Vinton; and one sister-in-law, Elsie Johnson, Fort Dodge; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one son, Richard “Dick” Husted St., who died January 28, 1982; four brothers, Merril, Arthur, Louis and Chester Johnson and three sisters, Lillian Gertsen, Julia Hulman, and Myrtle Schultz.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22 at Philips Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton with Dr. Dennis Morey, Vinton Presbyterian church officiating. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery Shellsburg...
