Cyrus E. Duncklee

Cyrus E. Duncklee, son of Curtis and Rebecca Duncklee, was born in Ticonderoga, New York December 20, 1847, and departed this life March 2, 1919, at the age of 71 years, two months and then days.

He came to Iowa with his parents and settled at Palo in 1856, and moved to Shellsburg in the sixties. Most of the time for the last 25 years he has lived with his nephew, Jeff Kellogg. He helped build the Rock Island Ry.through this part of Iowa. While the flour mill ws running in Shellsburg he worked in it, and when it was moved to Dakota he began running the engine for the tile factory, and got quite a reputation as an engineer. He died at the hospital in Iowa City of pneumonia and was the last of a large family to go, leaving only three nephews and two nieces and some other distant relatives to mourn his death.

J. C.Kellogg went to Iowa City and brought the body to his home, where funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, March 4, Rev. Bryden conducting the service. Interment was in the Shellsburg cemetery.

VICTIM OF ACCIDENT IS DEAD OF PNEUMONIA
Silas Duncklee

Silas Duncklee, an aged resident of the Shellsburg vicinity, who had his arm so badly mangled in a power pump at the county home January 7, died of pneumonia at the University hospital in Iowa City Saturday afternoon at three o'clock..Following the accident, which stripped the flesh from his right arm from elbow to shoulder, Mr. Duncklee was taken to the hospital. Skin grafting was performed and a good progress was being made, when he was taken ill with pneumonia..Jeff Kellogg, of Shellsburg, a nephew of the deceased, went to Iowa City after the body, and the funeral was held in the Kellogg home Monday afternoon at one o'clock. Burial was in Shellsburg cemetery.
