A Beautiful Life Ended by the Dreaded Typhoid Fever

The sad news was received here Saturday afternoon of the death of Miss Addie Brown of Vinton [Benton County], who at one time lived in Greene and was a general favorite among the young people. Her many friends here will join us in extending sympathy to the bereaved father and brothers. The Vinton Eagle contained the following:
A beautiful life ended last Saturday morning just before dawn, when Miss Addie Brown passed away. As word was passed from friend to friend that the end had come, consternation and sorrow was written on every face and unbelief that almost without warning the spirit had taken flight-- returned to the Lord who gave it.
Ten days before Miss Addie had been compelled to give up her duties and her illness was soon pronounced typhoid fever. At no time however, was her case considered dangerous and the change for the worse, which came about nine o'clock Friday evening was most unexpected.
Born on June 24th, 1873, she had lived long enough to leave with the sorrowing father and brothers a memory precious beyond the telling, a life given up to them and to the invalid mother who went away a few years ago, and in the unusually large circle of friends, a place which no one else can fill. A short service was held at the Presbyterian church Monday morning, conducted by her pastor, Rev. S. S. Hilscher and later surrounded by the relatives and intimate girl friends was laid away beside her mother in Evergreen cemetery.

OBITUARY OF MRS. BROWN
Anna B. Brown
Was Born November 20, 1876 and Died June 1, 1920 at the Age of 43 Years.
Anna B. Goings, daughter of Mr. and Mks. Geo. W. Goings was born in Washington township, Iowa county, November 20, 1876. In that community she passed her childhood and grew to womanhood.
She was married to David C. Brown on November 26, 1899. Four children were born to bless their home, one of which died in infancy. The three remaining are Georg F., Dolores and Irene.
Both of her parents, two brothers and one sister have preceded her to the better world. Her husband the three children, a sister, Mrs. Frank Trimble of Marengo, two half sisters Mrs. Alice Gilbert of Antigo, Wis. and Mrs. Barbara Johnson of Kansas, with other relative and a large circle of friends mourn her departure.
Her last sickness dates back to September of last year, and since February has been bedfast. It was with the thought of her comfort and for her sake that the family moved to Blairstown where all that medical skill and kindly care has been done for her. Death finally ended her sufferings and she went to be with Jesus. She died June 1, 1920, aged 43 years, 6 months and 11 days.
She was a patient sufferer thru all her sickness and appreciative of the loving care bestowed upon her by the family. We shall miss her and mourn her untimely departure, but we cannot wish her back again to pass thru a longer period of suffering such as she experienced.
She has gone to realize the bliss of which the poet sang:
“There is a land of pure delight.
Where saints immortal reign
Infinite day excludes the night
And pleasures banish pain”.
Funeral services were conducted at the house by Rev. 0. M. Yaggy the music being furnished by Miss Lydia Groff and Miss Mabel Miner with Mrs. Hope Davis at the piano.
Interment was made at the Blairstown cemetery, the six nephews serving as pall bearers, were Ralph, Dale, John, Alva, George and Harold Trimble.

JAMES BROWN OF URBANA IS DEAD
James Brown
James Brown, of Polk township whose serious illness at a hospital at Cedar Rapids the Eagle mentioned in its last issue, died Friday morning at 11:25. He was 67 years of age. The body was taken to his late home in that township and the funeral services were held Sunday.
Mr. Brown was a pioneer of Polk township coming to it in 1852. He was born April 20, 1847 in Indiana, and was a son of Abraham and Charlotte (Gilland) Brown. He remained on the home farm until 23 years of age, and received a common school education. He bought the old home farm, which he later sold, and in 1893 he bought the place he occupied at the time of death. He was always one of the hard working and successful farmers of the township. He was a member of the blue lodge and chapter of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.
Mr. Brown was married to Anna E., who survives him, daughter of John L. and Cynthia A. Burk, also pioneers of Polk township. Mr. and Mrs. Brown became the parents of eight children, viz: One child that died in infancy, unnamed, in 1871; Ora E., wife of J. C. Burrell, of Polk township; Frank J., a physician living in The Dallas, Oregon; Clara A., deceased; Scott O., an engineer of the Rock Island railroad living in Manly; Grace G., wife of Ray Johnson, living in Cedar Rapids; Seth L., who died in infancy; Guy D., living on a farm adjoining his father's farm in Polk township.
When the parents of both Mr. and Mrs. Brown came to Iowa, they drove through in covered wagons and the land was owned principally by the government. But little of the land had been broken and the country was in almost its natural state. Their first market place was Dubuque and later at Cedar Rapids. Mr. Brown was a liberal contributor in time and money in the development of his township and county.

Mrs. Roy Brown of La Porte Dies

La Porte City, Nov. 14--Funeral services for Mrs. Roy Brown, 69, of La Porte City, will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Methodist Church here. Rev. Ernest L. Shaffer of the Vinton Prairie Creek church, former pastor at Fairview, will conduct the services, assisted by Rev. Oliver Jensen of La Porte City's Methodist church. Burial will be in West View Cemetery.
Mrs. Brown died yesterday afternoon at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo where she had been a patient 12 days after a several days illness at her home. Death was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage. As Minnie Kaiser, she was born Dec. 7, 1881, at Mendota, Ill., a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Kaiser. As a small child she came with her parents to the Fairview community in Benton County where she grew to womanhood. She married Roy Brown March 18, 1903, at Mt. Auburn, and the couple started farming at Fairview. They farmed in that community until 1938 when they retired and moved to LaPorte City. She joined the Fairview United Brethren Church in her youth and was an active member of the church. She was also a member of the Rebekah lodge for many years before resigning a year ago.
Surviving are her husband, six sons, Clifford of Dysart, Ralph, Lawrence and Everett of LaPorte City; George of Waterloo and Robert of Medford, Ore., two daughters, Mrs. Chet Snovel of Eldora and Mrs. Harold Childres of Compton, Cal., 16 grandchildren, eight sisters, Mrs. Sophia Loveless, Mrs. Nettie Skiles, Mrs. T. W. Elliott, Mrs. Henry Mahood, Mrs. Emma Walker and Mrs. Ray Runyan of LaPorte City; Mrs. Lizzie Hill of Mt. Auburn and Mrs. Walter Wilson of Souix Falls, S. D.; and two brothers, Philip R. Kaiser of Independence and Louis of Garrison. One brother, an infant daughter and one grandson preceded her in death.
The body is at the Johannsen Funeral home.
